Going back to Pulau Tikus was like a walk down
memory lane. Not much has changed except for the traffic jams and prices of things. Walked outside our old home. We had lots of
great times there. The kids were young. S was just born and the boys were in
the Power Ranger stage - 3 & 4 years old. There was room in the home for
family, friends and toys. Family visits from PJ and Ipoh were frequent. Adik
was with us to help with the kids. The kids loved her. Would love to catch up with Adik again. Maria's somewhere in Sweden now. Call us!
Good food, fresh meat and vegetables were just a
5 minute walk away. V's cheap mee hoon supper at the market nearby was a
nightly ritual. V's mum would be cooking up a storm in the kitchen whenever she
visited and it was easy to walk for extras around the many makan* stalls
nearby. We put on extra kgs living in Penang. *makan - Malay for eating
D started reception in St Christopher's nearby.
He had a wonderful teacher. She took him under her wings and he was always by
her side. B started pre-school in Tanjong Bungah. CY's son, WH, was around the
same age and we carpooled to school. B's 1st few months in school was a noisy
affair. My feisty son was certainly not pleased with the separation each
morning. S was a good-natured baby. Quite a breeze looking after her. I
suppose, the trial and error practice with the boys must have honed our
parenting skills. By the time it came to our 3rd child, everyone was less
uptight about many things.
